Lesson R&S 77
Coach Dies
Hall-of-Fame 49ers Coach Bill Walsh, who led San Francisco to three Super Bowl titles, died Monday in Palo Alto, California. He was 75 and had been diagnosed with leukemia. “It’s sad,” said Marv Levy. “You realize it’s inevitable, but it’s still sad. I don’t remember Bill Walsh being old.”
Cincinnatians love Walsh because when he was with the Bengals under Paul Brown, he created the short passing game that became known as the West Coast offense. Another thing: “He taught all of us not only about football, but also about life and how it takes teamwork for any of us to succeed as individuals.”
