     Grandmother bought a new dress only “once in a blue moon.”  Our family goes to the movies “once in a blue moon.”  Some people take baths only “once in a blue moon!”

     When a second full moon appears in a month, it’s called a “blue moon.”  It’s rare.  I saw it a long time ago on New Year’s Eve.  Maybe you’ll see it yourself on New Year’s Eve—in 2009!

A phrase like “once in a blue moon” is called an idiom. This whole phrase has a special definition, “almost never” or “casi nunca.”
